Faustin-Archange Touadera elected president of Central African Republic

Former Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadera has been declared winner in the second round of presidential elections held last weekend.

He won 62.71 per cent of the votes to beat his contender Anicet-Georges Dologuele who managed to poll 37.29 per cent of the votes.

Touadera raked in 695,059 votes whiles Dologuele won 413,352 of the total votes cast, according to results published by the National Electoral Authority, NSA.

A constitutional court is expected to validate the results .

Out of the over 1.9 million registered voters, a total o f 1,108,411 votes were cast, according to the NSA.

Anicet Georges Dologuele, was favorite among 30 candidates. He won 23.78 per cent of the votes during the first round.

Faustin-Archange Touadera who contested as an independent candidate surprised many when he won 19.42 per cent of the votes during the first round.
